![]() ![]() ![]() The DX7 generated its sound using a new method of synthesis called FM synthesis, which allowed it to create percussive sounds, metallic sounds, and acoustic sounds such as flutes. For a producer, the DX7 meant more sonic options in one box, and more versatility in a recording studio. Along with its eventual spiritual successors, the Roland D-50 and Korg M1, the DX7 marked a move away from warm analog sounds, to complex digital sounds. It was released in 1983, and was the first digital synthesizer to have an impact on popular music. Many of these sounds came from one synthesizer: the Yamaha DX7. When I’m around Luke and listening to music, maybe I’ll be wearing headphones if I’m listening to Phish. JS: I’m not really a shamed of any music. Performing is one of my favorite things, and I’ve been doing that my en tire life…I can’t imagine my life without making music.ĬVh : THAT OR YOU ENJOY LISTENING TO IT WITH HEADPHONES. JS: I started writing songs and playing guitar when I was about eight, and I’ve been doing it my whole life. JS: Prince, Elton John, Michael Jackson-I don’t know if you can say that now… James Taylor. But if it’s not a latte, I drink coffee black.ĬVh : NAME SOME OF YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES. I went through a period when I was drinking lattes with soy milk. It was my number one and number two most listened to song because I listened to two different versions. I like to listen to Reb a, and I like to jam along on the guitar when they get to the jam section. That just made me think-they have a song called Reba, R-E-B-A. JS: Well, what will happen is there will be a song, and there will be a jam somewhere in it that will last fifteen minutes. JS: *laughs* That’s such a hard question because they have thousands of songs.ĬVh : AN D DON’T THEY JUST GO ON? ISN’T THAT THE THING? S ome of those are at the top of the list for me. JS: Yes, this is fascinating to a lot of people. JS: That is very hard because I’ve seen thousands of shows… JS: I can piano a little bit, but I wish I was a lot better at it. …he’s gotten into it about which hotdogs are best.ĬVh : HEARING THE WORD HOTDOG SOUNDS SO FOREIGN.ĬVh : *silence* WHAT’S AN INSTRUMENT YOU WISH YOU COULD PLAY? JS: I know that because I’m a huge Dax Shepherd fan, and he’s always talking about it. We did not speak to Luke Moellman, but we imagine he is equally good at conversation.ĬV HENRIETTE: ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THE DUELING CONEY ISLANDS? Synthpop duo Great Good Fine OK has done a lot of things, but the most recent thing they’ve done is make an album entitled GGFOUR that we’re really, really, into, which made our conversation with singer Jon Sandler extra exciting! ![]()
